Finding Balance: Navigating Stress and Struggle This Labor Day Weekend

Labor Day weekend—a time to kick back, celebrate, and enjoy a much-needed break from the grind. But for a lot of people, this isn’t the reality. The three-day weekend can feel like anything but a break. Instead, it might be filled with an uneasy mix of anxiety, loneliness, or even unresolved trauma. As a licensed trauma therapist in California, I get it. You're not alone in feeling this way. And I want you to know there's a way through the storm—a way to transform that adversity into strength.

The Labor of Living: Understanding Your Struggles

Labor Day might seem like a "day off," but for those battling inner demons—be it anxiety, PTSD, or the lingering effects of trauma—it can feel like just another hurdle. Maybe you're someone who's been running on empty, constantly pushing yourself, and Labor Day feels like a glaring reminder of the relentless pace of life. Or maybe it's the other way around; the downtime is a mirror reflecting a void—a loneliness that feels like it's echoing louder in the quiet moments. And having a day off, unable to drown the noise and pain in silence, is absolutely miserable for you.

And let's be real—living in California, where life is fast-paced and the cost of living is sky-high, only adds another layer of stress. You're not just dealing with the internal battles; you're also facing external pressures—jobs, family, finances, you name it. You might feel like you're juggling a million things, and sometimes, one more thing could be the one that breaks you. It f’n sucks and feels like it’s too much!

You’re Not Alone

If this resonates with you, trust me, you're not alone. These feelings, these struggles, the frustration are common, especially in places like LA, San Francisco, San Diego, or even the quieter towns scattered throughout the state. You might be:

- Feeling Overwhelmed:The daily shit show has left you with a constant sense of dread, like you're waiting for the other shoe to drop.

- Battling Anxiety or Depression:The pressures of life have skyrocketed your anxiety, leaving you feeling stuck in a loop of "what ifs."

- Struggling with Trauma: Past experiences have left scars that surface when you least expect them, triggered by the most innocuous things.

- Dealing with Loneliness:Despite being surrounded by people, you feel disconnected, as if no one truly understands what you’re going through.

The truth is, everyone has a story, and everyone has a struggle. But here's the kicker—you don't have to go through it alone. That's where I come in.

How I Can Help

I specialize in turning all that adversity into strength. My practice is grounded in evidence-based therapies like Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Prolonged Exposure (PE), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). While these may just sound like alphabet soup and fancy terms; they’re tried-and-true, evidence-based methods that help you process trauma, manage anxiety, and combat depression.

But more than that, it’s about the connection. It’s about creating a comfortable, safe space where you can be yourself—raw, vulnerable, and real. It’s about finding the right tools and strategies that work for *you* because healing isn’t one-size-fits-all. And trust me, I’m not your typical therapist. I’m raw, vulnerable, and real so don’t expect the woo-woo therapists you might have seen or heard about in the past. People say that they choose me because I’m down to earth and real and that makes them feel comfortable with therapy and doing the work. I love that!

Let’s Break Down the Skills and Services:

1. Trauma-Focused Therapy: If you hear one thing I say, let it be this. Trauma doesn’t have to define you. With therapies like CPT and EMDR, we’ll work to process those memories that keep you stuck, allowing you to move forward without the heavy baggage. It’s absolutely freeing and healing.

2. Anxiety Management: Anxiety can feel like a straitjacket, but it doesn’t have to. Using CBT, we’ll identify those negative thought patterns and work to shift them, replacing them with healthier, more constructive ways of thinking. Essentially, we will rewire your brain. How cool is that?

3. Depression Treatment: Depression can be a dark cloud, making even the easiest things feel impossible. Using a mix of therapeutic techniques, we'll find ways to lift that fog, helping you find the motivation to live, and enjoy, your life again.

4. Mindfulness and Grounding Techniques: Sometimes, the best therapy isn’t just talking—it’s about learning to be present, to breathe, and to ground yourself in the here and now. These techniques can help manage both anxiety and trauma responses.

5. Customized Care Plans: No two clients are the same, which means no two therapy plans are either. Together, we'll come up with a plan that meets your unique needs and goals.

Labor Day Weekend: A Time to Reflect and Reset

This Labor Day weekend, I’m going to challenge you. Not to ignore the pain or push it down, but to recognize it for what it is—an opportunity. An opportunity to acknowledge what’s not working and to make a conscious decision to do something about it.

Maybe it’s taking that first step and admitting you need help. Maybe it’s recognizing that the weight you’ve been carrying is too much to bear alone. Whatever it is, know that help is here. You don't have to do this alone. Let’s do this!

The Connection to California: Why This Matters Here

California is unique. We’ve got the beaches, the mountains, the deserts, and everything in between. But we’ve also got some of the highest stress levels in the country. The cost of living, the pressure to succeed, the constant comparison—it’s a lot. And it can take a toll on your mental health.

But here's the thing: California is also a place of opportunity. It’s a place where people come to reinvent themselves, to heal, to grow. And that’s exactly what therapy can offer—a chance to hit the reset button, to find a new way forward.

Not Just for Californians: Help is Here No Matter Where You Are

While I serve the vibrant and diverse communities of California, I also understand that struggles don’t recognize state lines. Maybe you're reading this from another state—whether it's Texas, Maine, Florida, SC, VT, or anywhere in between—and you're feeling the weight of similar burdens. The truth is, no matter where you are, these feelings are universal, and the need for support is just as real.

Telehealth has made therapy accessible in ways we couldn't have imagined a few years ago. So, even if you're not in California, I can still help. I am licensed in the six states, listed above, and am ready when you are. Together, we can tackle your struggles, build resilience, and find that inner strength, all from the comfort of your home. Don't let distance be a barrier to getting the support you need.

My Approach: Transforming Adversity into Strength

I don’t believe in quick fixes or cookie-cutter solutions. The work we do together is deep, it’s meaningful, and it’s transformative. It’s about digging deep, diving into those core beliefs that are keeping you stuck, challenging them, and replacing them with something stronger. It’s about learning to live, not just survive.

One of my clients, a first responder, came to me after years of pushing down the trauma he experienced on the job. He was suffering from anxiety and nightmares, and his marriage was on the rocks. Together, we worked through those experiences using CPT, and over time, he learned not just to cope, but to thrive. He no longer needed the bandaids (coping skills) because we dealt with the core issues which helped him move past and heal. He’s now a stronger, more resilient version of himself—proof that it’s never too late to change your story.

Let’s Talk, Be 100

Look, I know therapy can feel daunting. Maybe you’ve tried it before and it didn’t work, or maybe you’re afraid to open up. Trust me, I get it. I’ve been there and it’ here.s okay. Starting therapy is a big step, and it’s normal to feel unsure. But if you're feeling that tug, that sense that something needs to change, maybe now is the time to listen to it. You have to be ready and you have to find the right person to work with. Hopefully, I’m that one. Find out more about me here.

Reach out. Let’s have a conversation. No pressure, no commitment—just a chance to talk and see if we're a good fit. Or if you already know from just reading this, schedule an appointment here. Because you deserve to feel better. You deserve to take care of yourself, to invest in your mental health, just as you would your physical health.

Final Thoughts: You’re Worth It

Remember this—you are stronger than you think. You have the capacity to heal, to grow, and to thrive. I’m here to help you do that. Let’s do this, together.
