Getting Real: Dealing with Anger After Tough Times
So, you've been through some crap, and now anger's knocking on your door like it's got a bone to pick. The question is, do you answer? I get it, you’re pissed off, frustrated, maybe feel like you have no control over what’s happening in your life. But guess what…. you don’t have to give in. You don’t have to let your emotions take over. Instead, take control over your anger and take control over the situation; don’t make it worse.
As ridiculous as it sounds, let it go. Try these 10 tips to walk away from the self destructive urge and instead, refocus and regain your power. Just try.
1. **Feel the emotion, No Explosion:** Anger's no villain; it's just part of the story. Own it without exploding- it's a ride, not a destination. You can be angry without self destructing or lashing out.
2. **Breathe Like It’s Your Job:** When anger's breathing down your neck, do the same. Inhale the calm, exhale the crazy. It's like a mini-vacation for your sanity. Breathe in 4 seconds, hold 4 seconds, breathe out 4 seconds. Repeat until calm.
3. **Patience, My Friend:** Healing's a slow dance. Be cool with that. Anger's complex; it takes its sweet time. Roll with the punches.
4. **Share the Load:** Get it out with your ride-or-dies. Sometimes, just talking about it makes it less of a monster, it takes away its power. Lean on your support system.
5. **Anger Power Hour:** Transform that rage into something epic. Take action, be a force for good, and shake things up a bit. I’m thinking maybe an amazing workout, a new business idea or something exciting with the family.
6. **Mindfulness 101:** Be in the now, not the "what ifs" of back then. Mindfulness is like a mental spa day—refreshing and anger-resistant.
7. **Own Your Strength:** Real talk: being vulnerable is hardcore strength. It's like flexing the muscles you didn't know you had.
8. **Get Creative with Fury:** Turn that rage into something epic. Draw, write, scream into the void—it's your call.
9. **Boundaries, Babe:** Build a fortress of boundaries. You’re the king or queen of your castle. Defend it like royalty.
10. **Therapy’s Not a Dirty Word:** Ain't no shame in seeking pro help. A trauma therapist's like a life GPS—helps you navigate the crazy twists. This is why I am here, to be your Google Maps.
Even in the worst of times, your anger can be your secret weapon. Wrangle it with these strategies, and watch it transform into a force that's uniquely yours. Be a force of nature…a calm, cool, collected one not an unpredictable destructive one.
If you are ready to work a little deeper on the core of your anger and how to hopefully resolve it, I am happy to help. Call, text, or email for an appointment. I’m here to help.
